The perfect spot for posting Kilt night/Event notices and announcements
Tuesday, March 27th, 2007
I wear kilts almost everyday, year round despite the weather, I have several all of various colors and patterns, one of my favorite kilts is my 3 color Desert Camo…now I am quite use to the gawks and quiet whispers of passer byes, I just smile and wave and carry on with my day. but on the rare occassion you will come across that one individual who for lack of a better term “ignorant”.
I had to stop by an Auto/Hardware store on the way home the other night, so here I go wondering around the Auto section looking for the few bits I needed, as I approached the parts counter a middle aged couple were being waited on, the woman burst into a loud laugh and I quote” Oh my God look at the Fag in the dress”.
Now I am quite understanding that not everyone is into kilts or their heritage, or seeing a man in a non traditional kilt, etc…. I was very tempted to just ignore the comment and not get into a battle of the wits with an unarmed person… I kept looking for the bits I needed and I was getting more ticked off by the second, so I informed her that it was a kilt and that I was not a Quote “Fag” end quote, and that a sexual preference has not one dam thing to do with my apparel of choice.
Then she continues to ask oh you must be in the Military with all your camouflage, I informed her that yes I was in the military and was proud of it and that I am married with 4 kids and I prefer to wear kilts instead of jeans, meanwhile her husband(I presume) stood there the entire time and never glanced sideways or muttered a word
I guess the fact that I took offense to her comments and actually said something back, was a shock, we live in a world of vast cultures and wide array of attire….if someones chooses to wear an item for comfort, religion, or any other reason, so be it.
This is the worst encounter I have had while wearing my kilt, and it has not or will not deter me, I wear kilts to be comfortable…. enough said
Cheers
