Thanks for everything

Chat with my dad

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

I called my parents today to see how my dad’s new kilt outfit is fitting, and in general see what they have been up too.  I asked him how his kilt and highland attire fit, “oh fits great” he said, then he tells me, he now knows what I talk about when you wear a kilt out in public, he said: ” yeah I notice that you do get a lot of looks when you wear one” they went out for dinner the other night and he wore his kilt and was amazed at the amount of people who tried to make the staring go un-noticed.. he just laughed it off and continued on his merry way.

Just another kilted person spreading the word

The Tartans are coming ..the Tartans are coming!!!!!!!

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

It has been a few days since my last posts, and here is why…. we have been working on adding the lists of tartans to the kilt section of our website….. and with over 800 tartans currently available at our disposal…. it is a daunting task looking at the list of tartans.  The different weights of material, We think we have a plan worked out that will allow the viewers (that’s you folks) a way to easily select your tartan based on weight and yards….give us a few more days and they should be available on the site…. if you would like to enquire on a specific tartan and size requirements you can email us here.

Be sure to include the Tartan name, your natural waist size (this is not your pant size) your hips and the length…. Now you ask how do I get these measurements……….Here’s how.. refer to image below.

Kilt Size

A) Waist (taken over a thin shirt only) - find the bottom of the rib cage and the top of the hip bone. Place the tape measure between those two points and measure around the roundest part of the waist. This measurement should be taken taut. If the gentleman is of generous stature, measure quite taut.

(B) Hip to knee - measure from top of hip bone down to the top of the knee cap.  Note: If you prefer to wear your kilt to the middle of your knee cap, please specify and measure accordingly.

(C) Round seat - measure around the roundest part of the seat, this measurement should be taken with approx 1″ of slackness on the tape measure.

(D) Total length incl. rise - Measure from the bottom of your rib cage to the top of your knee. Or, if you intend to wear your kilt to mid knee, please specify and measure accordingly. A kilt is worn higher than trousers, approximately 2-2.5”above the hipbone. This measurement will include the “rise” of the kilt. A 2” rise above the hip is typical for most men.

Please include your height and weight.

Hammish Video

Friday, April 20th, 2007

I was surfing the web today and came across this video on the BBC, of Hamish…. after watching the video a couple of times I can completely agree with his statement that a person of strong charater is able to wear the kilt…. and I have to agree on his other point of the comfort and freedom of the kilt is unsurpassed by any other garment…..IT’s ALL ABOUT THE FREEDOM!!!

Excuse me sir…..

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

I just came back from our local coffee shop, while standing in line I could see an older couple with associates peeking around a short wall checking out my kilt and new dragon sporran… as they sit conversing over if im a this or that or just what is he wearing….I could hear the woman ask ..well thats enough, Im going ot ask him… next I know , excuse me sir, what do you call that outfit your wearing,….I said well thanks for your interest and explained I wearing a Kilt a, Kargo Kilt actually , and I proceded to explain the sporran and its purpose/uses…..she then thanks me and goes back to the table and in a plain clear voice she tells the rest of the table and the rest of the coffee shop (LOL)….he’s wearing a KILT!!

I am noicing more curiosity now more than ever, I’m not sure if people around here are getting use to seeing me in a kilt or if I am tuning out more of the snickerin and gigglin….

One thing I do know is..I am more comfortable in a kilt than in jeans and as long as Im comfortable all that matters…..
Once again spreding the word of Kiltness

Kilt Comment

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

Today I went to the mall and as I strolled  to the coffee shop,I overheard 2 guys asking each other what I was wearing, they sort of giggled like school girls as I passed by…so on my return trip up thru the mall I see they are still sitting on their bench, I pulled out a business card and gave it to them and  told them …. just a FYI , its a Kargo Kilt….. and carried on my day.

Just doing my part to spread the word of kiltness.

Tartan Day-Flag Raising

Friday, April 6th, 2007

We had a typical April day in Saint John yesterday April 5, from a light rain/snow combination to hail, but this did not deter our mission, as the members of the Saint Andrews Society of Saint John(my self included) held a flag raising with his Worship, Norm McFarlane(Mayor).

After a short speech form one of the Society members, a prayer, and behold the Saltire was waving in the wind.

With a quick jaunt to to Pete’s Pub, a few pints, a few had a meal…. and as we sit enjoying a pint we hear the pleasant sound of a lone piper followed by highland dancers, and into market Square they go… for the announcement of 2007 Canadian Scottish Dancing Championships held at harbour Station July 4-8 2007as of yesterdays date approx.250 dancers had registered for the event.

A final note, a great time was had by all, and one of the Societies biggest turnouts for Tartan Day

Update April 11 2007, Pictures of the flag raising and some of the Society members.( I am the one with the Camo kilt.)
